Vestjyllands Højskole, 17 or 22 weeks
Vestjyllands Højskole is a Danish folk high school in the tradition of independent schools offering non-formal education for adults.
We are a cultural power centre in beautiful nature by the Fjord of Ringkøbing near the North Sea. You will meet teachers with an extraordinary passion for what they do, and they have a genuine interest in you and your fellow students.
You will make close friends and develop yourself in many ways at our school.
We offer a range of subjects: Sustainable building and cooking, ceramics, existence, painting, meeting the world, textile crafts, wooden crafts, music, and dance. At Vestjyllands Højskole, you can compose your schedule from among all courses.
You can focus all your classes in one direction, such as dance, sustainability, or art. You can also choose to try many different classes.
For example, start the day with "ceramics" and join "musicality" in the afternoon. You choose your classes after arrival.
Generally, the teaching at Vestjyllands Højskole takes place in Danish, but teachers and students will help translate instructions and information into English. To be a student at Vestjyllands Højskole, you must communicate well in English.
Meals are 90-100% organic, we produce our C02-neutral energy, and we have an inspiring garden where we grow our vegetables.
You eat, sleep, study and spend your time at Vestjyllands Højskole. You live in a single or double room. Students come from different backgrounds, mostly aged between 18 and 30. The typical stay is for 4 -10 months.
There are no academic requirements for admittance, and there are no exams, but you receive a diploma when you leave.
Vestjyllands Højskole is a school for adults - a school for life.

The magic life at Vestjyllands Hojskole
I've found many things in my life that were there already, but I was blind to them before
"OK, this is also me, and I have to do something with this, and I should try it. I have become more confident."
Before I came to Vestjyllands Højskole, I finished a bachelor's degree in psychology. I realized I did not want to continue, so I did not apply for the master's degree. The need to do something other than university was intense.
Now my dream is to have a café. I want to create a space for people to enjoy their spare time and where they can learn something at the same time through workshops and talks. It would be something special in my culture.
My favorite classes are cooking and pastry, and I look forward to every Thursday and Friday.
I am happy that I made this decision; it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
It might be a cliché, but we are like a family; even though it is sometimes hard to be a foreigner and not understand Danish, I feel the love from people and the contagious energy.
We are dedicated to developing relationships with ourselves and with others.
Vestjyllands Højskole is about learning something far beyond just subjects in a classroom. We believe that everyone can do more than they believe they can.
We create an environment where you can develop your professional and social skills. Our wish is to be a højskole with a wide range of subjects, where we can inspire and learn from each other about community and democracy.
Vestjyllands Højskole is a leading ecological and sustainable højskole situated in West Jutland. Ecology and sustainability are a natural part of our daily life.
In 2009, we were the first school in Denmark to receive the Green flag for our actions, and we can proudly say we have maintained it since then! In 2008, we won the prize "Rav-Aage Prisen" from our main organic dairy provider Thise Mejeri. We are also one of the first schools in Denmark to achieve Fairtrade status. You will hear us discussing food a lot! There are many opinions on how to eat sustainably, and we welcome you to join the conversation!
We are part of international and Nordic development projects, mentor other schools, and cooperate with green associations. Students have started many sustainability projects around the school.
We have a view of the fjord, and on a clear day, we can also see the North Sea. Situated in rural western Denmark, we are 5 kilometres from Ringkøbing. The nearest small village is Velling, 1 km away.
