Wool
Since ancient times, people have created clothing from the luxurious wool of sheep. In this course, we dive into the slow and creative processes of working with wool—from the raw fleece to the soft knitted sweater.
We begin by making our own yarn. You’ll learn, among other things, how to spin with a drop spindle and spinning wheel, as well as the technique of “dogme knitting,” where the yarn is pulled directly from the fleece. The handspun yarn will then be used for projects such as knitting, crocheting, or small woven pieces.
Felting is also an important part of the course, where we’ll make everything from bags and hats to slippers and vests.
Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the many possibilities of wool and learn to create unique and artistic—as well as durable and practical—woolen items. At the same time, we’ll enjoy the calm, focus, and presence that arise when we engage in this repetitive, slow, and meditative craft.
