Senses

Can we separate our senses—or sharpen the ones we have? Can we learn to listen to the foreground as well as the background? What do we see when it’s dark, and what do we hear when it’s noisy—or completely silent?

We will focus on seeing, listening, and sensing, lingering in the slow movement through the landscape—that is, allowing ourselves to sink into the cracks or drift deep into the pocket lint. We’ll dwell on the details, get down on our knees, and explore the soil—and everything else around us.

Through a series of safe experiments, we’ll explore how the body navigates the world. We will listen, feel, taste, and move through the landscape at many different tempos, both indoors and outdoors. And for those who wish, there will be opportunities to sleep under the open sky, immerse the body in the cold fjord, walk in silence, and meditate in the Mongolian yurt.
