Nordic Living

Cozy living, folk high schools, and everyday life!
Nordic Living gives international students an introduction to the Danish folk high school – both as an educational concept and as the unique place you’ve arrived at.

We dive into Danish folk high school pedagogy, Grundtvig’s ideas and their impact, explore everyday practices – and talk about everything from hygge to packed lunches.

However, the learning doesn’t stop in the classroom at Vestjyllands Højskole. We head out to experience culture up close: the powerful North Sea, one of our local national parks, everyday institutions such as childcare centers and schools – and we visit our neighbors in Velling to share a home-cooked meal with Danish students.

Life at a folk high school is lived every single day. As an international student, this can raise many questions: What does community mean here? How does this special kind of school work? And why do we do things the way we do?
In Nordic Living, there’s space for exactly those conversations – about differences, similarities, and all the small, taken-for-granted details that together make up everyday life – at Vestjyllands Højskole and everywhere else.
